St. George Syrian Orthodox Church

Patriarch
His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas was born in 1932 in Mosul, Iraq. His Holiness completed high school education at St. Thomas Syrian Orthodox School and entered the Mor Aphrem theological school at Mosul in 1946 where His Holiness completed his education in 1954. His Holiness was ordained priest and became a monk in 1947.

His Holiness was ordained Metropolitan Zakka Mor Severious by Patriarch Yaqub III in 1963. In 1964, Mor Severious discovered the remains of St. Thomas in the sanctuary wall of the church at Mosul. In 1969, Mor Severious became the Metropolitan of Baghdad, where he also served as the Head of Syriac Studies and a member of the educational academy. Mor Severious also served as a member of the World Council of Churches.

On September 14, 1980, Mor Severious was consecrated the Patriarch of Antioch by name Ignatius Zakka I, in a rite officiated by Catholicose of the East, Baselious Paulose II along with the archbishops of the Holy Synod. Read More...

Archbishop & Patriarchal Vicar
His Holiness the Patriarch of Antioch and all the East Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas ordained Very Rev. Ramban Yeldho Pathikkal as the Archbishop and Patriarchal Vicar of the Malankara Archdiocese in North America at the solemn function held at the St.Peter and St.Paul Cathedral in the Monastery of St.Aphrem the Syrian, at Ma'arrat Seydnaya, Damascus, Syria. The new Metropolitan was entrusted with the title 'TITHUS' during the consecration ceremony. His Grace will henceforth known by name 'Mor Tithus Yeldho'.

Born on 22 July 1970 to Pathikkal P M Kuriakose and Sosamma, His Grace belongs to the Perumbavur Bethel Suloko Church in the Angamali diocese, India. His schooling was at the Asramam High School, Perumbavur. He took the Degree and Post Graduation in Mathematics from the Union Christian College at Alwaye. Later he completed the B.Ed. course from the Mahatma Gandhi University.

It was the age of 12, on 28 October 1982, Metropolitan Mor Tithus Yeldho was ordained deacon by Mor Athanasius Paulose, the late Metropolitan for the Evangelical Association of the East. In 1997 he went to the Patriarchal Cathedral at Damascus. On September 5, 1999 he was ordained Ramban by His Holiness the Patriarch and on 26th ordained as Kassisso. The Metropolitan had his theological education from the Patriarchal Seminary at Damascus and the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Seminary at Udayagiri, India. During this period he had the opportunity to have studies at the Syrian Orthodox Monasteries of Jerusalem, Turkey, Holland, Germany and Switzerland. Current Vicar
Rev. Fr. Bijo Kulathinkarote Mathew was born in Kerala, India to Mr. Mathew Jacob & Mrs. Aleyamma Mathew. He moved to the USA when he was 10 years old.

Fr. Bijo earned a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Management Information systems from the University of Houston. He has attended St Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary in New York & Union Theological Seminary New York.

Fr. Bijo was ordained to the fourth level of Deacon, Koruyo on July of 1998, to the fifth level, apodyaqno, on March 2002 by H. E. Mor Ivanios Mathews, to full deacon, shamosho, on August 2004 by H.E. Mor Titus Yeldho and as a priest, Kassisso, on September 4, 2004 by H. E. Mor Titus Yeldho.

Fr. Bijo has been serving as the vicar of St. George Syrian Orthodox Church, Charlotte, NC since January 1, 2007. Fr. Bijo is married to Janice and they have a son named Jacob. Read More...

Qoruyo - Deacon
Rev. Dn. Chacko George was born in Kerala, India as the son of Late Mr. C.O. George, Caruthedathu, Mavelikkara and Mrs. Mary George, Cheriya Vayaliparambil, Nedumbassery.

Dn. Chacko was ordained Qoruyo by H. E. Mor Titus Yeldho on February 19, 2011 and serves St. George Syrian Orthodox Church, Charlotte, NC.

Rev. Dn. Shawn Shaji was born in Pascack Valley, NJ as the son of Mr. Shaji Peter and Mrs. Basil S. Peter, who migrated from India and were members of St. Ignatius Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, East Vazhamuttom of Thumpamon Diocese. Dn. Shawn and family moved to current residence in South Carolina in 2006.

Dn. Shawn, a first year college student at Clemson University in South Carolina, was ordained Qoruyo by H. E. Mor Titus Yeldho on February 19, 2011 and serves St. George Syrian Orthodox Church, Charlotte, NC.  

 

 

Qoruyo - Deacon
Rev. Dn. Subin Shaji was born in Pascack Valley, NJ as the son of Mr. Shaji Peter and Mrs. Basil S. Abraham (Jan) Wilson was born in Westchester, NY as the son of Mr. Wilson Abraham and Mrs. Ancy Wilson, who migrated from India and were members of St. Mary's Jacobite Syrian Church, Krariyely, Kombanad of Angamaly Diocese. Dn. Abraham and family moved to current residence in South Carolina in 2006.

Dn. Abraham, a twelfth grade student at Nation Ford High School in South Carolina, was ordained Qoruyo by H. E. Mor Titus Yeldho on August 06, 2011 and serves St. George Syrian Orthodox Church, Charlotte, NC.
